Simple Vows of Br. Placid

Author

Fr. Benedict Nivakoff, O.S.B.

Whenever a man asks to join the community he is asked “Quid petis?” “What do you seek?”, he replies that he seeks the mercy of God and to join the brothers, then after being told of the long and hard way of the monastic life he will be clothed as a novice. After a year in the novitiate, where he has learnt many things about our way of life and the way of perfection mapped out by St. Benedict, he will be ready to make his first vows. During this ceremony he is asked again “Quid petis?” his answer is the same he asks for the mercy of God and to join the brothers.

On the 5th of January this year one of our postulants Br. Fedele our first Brazilian member asked to become a novice and received the short scapular, he now begins his yearlong novitiate. The day after on the Solemnity of the Epiphany of Our Lord, Br. Saverio De Wogo, our youngest Indonesian member, made his simple vows during the ceremony which takes place during a High Mass and took the name of Br. Placid.

We ask for your prayers for our newly professed Br. Placid also for our new novice Br. Fedele and for all in our community that they may live in unity as sons of St. Benedict.
