Dear Friends of Norcia,
Please forgive my long silence in posting. We had been waiting for certain improvements to the website to be made to return to our updates. Now the site is in good shape and we can begin to make postings more regularly. The monastery is extremely grateful to our Webmaster, an oblate of Norcia, for all his work in creating and now maintaining osbnorcia.
The process began with the idea to simply update and clean up the old site. Pretty quickly, thanks to our Webmaster’s generosity and ingenuity, the site took on a new vision: to offer the world a window into our life, not only through images and text, but through the music of our chanted daily Mass. A new format was necessary to house the new technology. The results have been wonderful. Since the Mass is entirely in Latin it can be accessible to people from all nationalities. In the future, we also hope to broadcast Vespers, Compline, and if there is interest, Lauds and the little hours. With painstaking care, Homer has tried to give the website the feel of an actual visit to the monastery in Norcia. For that reason, we do not edit out imperfections or mistakes in the chant; coughing, sneezing and the occasional cell phone can also be heard as well! It has taken us a long time to put the technology and resources together to build the site and there is still much to do. Please keep checking back.
There have been so many exciting events in the monastery these past months. For now, I will only mention one, the simple profession of Br Evagrius Hayden and Br Michael Reyes on September 3rd. the following is a photo from the Mass of their profession. In the coming weeks I will post photos of the solemn Mass for Br John’s Profession as well as progress photos for our new monastery in Norcia, San Benedetto Fuori le Mura.
In Christ,
Fr Benedict Nivakoff
